About Abdul Badr
Abdul Badr, M.D., FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon. Before joining Parkview Regional Hospital, Dr. Badr practiced at Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel, Illinois - one of the state's best critical access hospitals. He was there from 2018 to 2023 and gained extensive experience with patients of all age groups in a rural community surgical practice.
Dr. Badr has performed over 1,000 colonoscopies and hundreds of major surgeries including gall bladder, hernia, and appendix. He also performs surgeries to address skin cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer, and more. Has a special interest in laparoscopic and acute care surgery and is skilled at treating chronic, non-healing wounds.
Dr. Badr originally comes from the small, historic town of Qadian in rural Punjab, India. He was raised by a surgeon father and physician mother. Watching his father closely all childhood, becoming a surgeon was what he always wished and prayed for.
"I feel confident, God willing, that with my knowledge, skills and experience, I will be able to serve the surgical needs of the community to the best of my abilities," Dr. Badr said. "My dad taught me to treat every patient how I treat my own family and that is a philosophy I adhere to."
Dr. Badr completed his initial medical training in 2011 at the prestigious University College of Medical Sciences & GTB Hospital of Delhi University in India. He completed rotations at Emory University in Atlanta and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. He then permanently moved to the U.S. to pursue his passion of becoming a surgeon. He finished his general surgery internship and residency in 2018 at Easton Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - an affiliate of Drexel University. He had a memorable and vast experience rotating through world-class hospitals including Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Badr is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) and the American Professional Wound Care Association. He is fluent in English, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu and can understand Bengali very well.
In his free time, he loves being with his wife and two sons, attending community faith gatherings, gardening, traveling, and learning new languages.
